The Handloom Suit is inspired by the migrational woven histories of coverlets and is an adaptation of a coverlet originally woven in Ayrshire, Scotland and recorded later on in Ontario, Canada. Woven on a 19th Century Handloom using yarns from Ardalanish Weavers, a heritage weaving mill on the Isle of Mull, they source from their own farm alongside farms across the Highlands and Islands. The silver yarn is a mix of their own Hebridean flock and Shetland wool. The red yarn is naturally hand- dyed with Madder root by the artist.
The cropped, collarless jacket and column skirt were developed with designer and pattern maker Fiona Frohnapfel and finished with hand-forged silver woven buttons by silversmith Heath Wagoner. The suit is exclusively made-to-order through Old Stone Trade.
